Il y décrit la drôle de guerre dans l'un de ces abris. Le cadre des évènements évoque un mélange de différents lieux : Monthermé ("Moriarmé"), le plateau des Hauts-Buttés, le fort de Sugny...
Further along The Maginot Line the occasional above-ground fortress cleverly disguised as a forest dwelling, but connected to multi-level underground tunnels with men and munitions. This became the basis for the 1958 novel by Julian Gracq "Un Balcon En Forêt" and the subsequent film on the subject of the "drôle de guerre" - the boredom and dispiriting wait for the enemy to attack - cut off from the world in these concrete bunkers.
The situations evoke a blend of locations - Monthermé
("Moriarmé"), the plateau at les Hauts-Buttés, the fort at Sugny.
