A la suite de Jacques Felix, fondateur en 1941 des "Petits Comédiens de Chiffons", créateur du célèbre festival triennal de Charleville-Mézières et secrétaire général de l'UNIMA pendant 20 ans, Charleville s'est prise de passion pour la marionnette. Elle revendique désormais le titre de capitale de la marionnette et accueille le siège de l'UNIMA , l'Institut International de la Marionnette et l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette (l'ESNAM). L'actuelle présidente de l'UNIMA est Margereta Niculescu ancienne directrice de l'école de marionnettes.

The World Marionnette Festival was started by Jacques Felix and his small group, "Les Petits Comédiens de Chiffons" ("The Little Actors in Rags").
Every three years the best puppeteers in the world congregate here,
transforming Charleville-Mézières into a magical land. The town is the
headquarters of UNIMA, the International Marionnette Institute, and of the National MarionnetteSchool (ENSAM) , which trains students from all over the world. Charleville is now looked upon as the puppet capital of the world.
The current president of the UNIMA is Margereta Niculescu, former
director of the puppet school.
