I was unacquainted with his works.
As I was to meet him, I had read some of his books, -"le Pays où l'on n'arrive jamais" (The unreachable country), mainly "je ne suis pas d'ici" (I'm not from here) ...
I spoke to him as to a writer and he answered me :
"I'm not a writer, I'm a "traînard" (loiterer), I'm walking in woods picking mushrooms..."
I thought : what a man!

I remember him near his home in Mont-de-Jeux, always holding hands with his wife Suzette as if they had been teen agers in love!

He had been teaching in Athenes half a century before me
He spoke this parodox to me as he compared the local Ardennes sky to that of Attica in Greece :
"I feel I'm in Attica here in the Ardennes!"

André Dhôtel, Suzette Dhôtel, Monique Gillet
